Graduate Training Programs in Clinical Investigation

Funding

Below are funding opportunities for those applying to GTPCI.

Clinical Research Scholars Program (KL2/K12)

The GTPCI became part of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) in 2007.  The ICTR is part of the National Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) consortium, created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to accelerate laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients.

The Johns Hopkins KL2/K12 programs provide career development support for junior faculty physicians within Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.  For questions, you may contact JHCRS-K12@jh.edu.

T32 Institutional Training Grant Support

Since GTPCI does not provide funds to support stipends/tuition required for the program, SOM departments/divisions are expected to identify funding for their students.  We found that the NIH is enthusiastic about formal training programs for clinical investigators and is willing to provide tuition support and stipends.  We encourage training program directors who recommend completion of the GTPCI program to their clinical trainees, to incorporate the GTPCI into training grant applications and renewals so that tuition support and stipends can be provided.  To our knowledge, all training grant renewals that have incorporated the GTPCI into applications/renewals have been awarded, some with enthusiastic comments on their Summary Statements.  If needed, the GTPCI Office can provide program descriptions and curricular outlines for use in the applications.

K23 and F32 Grant Support

Many successful K23 and F32 applications awarded to post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty had included GTPCI training as part of the proposed career development plan.  Both grants provide career development support; therefore, they can support full-time training for the GTPCI programs.  If needed, we can provide program descriptions and curricular outlines for use in the applications.
