Meet our 2025-26 tutors below!
Selina Ma
I am a second year MSPH Health Systems student in the Department of International Health with a background in disaster studies and emergency management. I obtained my BA in Global Public Health/History and French at New York University, where I previously worked as a writing tutor and the managing editor for the NYU GPH Journal of Public Health Disasters. I specialize in argumentative and analytical essays/papers, policy memos, and in improving structure and flow. Looking forward to helping writers develop and explain their ideas in a persuasive manner!
Fun fact: My favorite topic for historical study is the French Revolution.
Janna Aladdin
I am an MPH student concentrating in humanitarian health. Previously, I completed my MA in Near Eastern studies at New York University and my MPhil in History at Columbia University. I specialize in argumentative and analytical essays, academic publishing, and research articles. I enjoy helping writers explore their topics of interest through brainstorming sessions and thesis workshops. Additionally, I can assist students with personal statements and research proposals. I have extensive experience teaching writing and editing academic papers. I am passionate about writing and eager to help Bloomberg students expand on their ideas.
Fun fact: I am passionate about Irish history and always eager to discuss.
Nimasha Fernando, MPH
I am a third year DrPH student in the Women’s and Reproductive Health concentration and hold my MPH in Global Health from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. My background is in global health supporting international HIV and maternal child health programs. Recently, I transitioned to the domestic public health field and now work as the Performance and Quality Improvement Program Manager at the Maryland Department of Health. As a tutor, I specialize in technical writing for global health and quality-focused audiences. I especially enjoy coaching students and changemakers to translate their ideas into personal statements and other forms of high-quality writing!
Fun Fact: Maryland is my home state.
Jyotsna Jayaram
I am a second year ScM student in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. I completed my undergraduate education in Neurobiology/Physiology at the University of Maryland, where I also completed a Professional Writing minor. I thoroughly enjoy the writing process, especially in helping students find their voices through their writing. I hope to provide students with support in all kinds of writing projects, including but not limited to cover letters, personal statements, and research papers.
Fun fact: I can play four instruments (piano, flute, ukulele, harmonica), with piano being my favorite!
Aarushi Tyagi
I am a first year MSPH student in the Department of Health Policy and Management. I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in Government and Politics and a minor in Humanities, Health and Medicine, and I also was a tutor at UMD’s Writing Center during my time there. I helped students with a wide range of assignments, from capstone research projects to resumes and cover letters. I specialize in providing feedback on narratives, as well as distinguishing between tones, and incorporating creative writing into professional writing - something I believe is important and personally enjoy!
Fun fact: I’ve been creatively writing for over 10 years and currently really enjoy writing free verse poetry!
