Guest Speaker Noelle Hurd, Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, will address how confronting online anti-Black racism can reduce harm and promote equity at PWIs.

Emerging research suggests that some of the harms associated with exposure to online racism may be mitigated when White students confront racist posts. University of Virginia Professor of Psychology Noelle Hurd will describe the development and evaluation of a video-based online interactive intervention designed to increase White students’ willingness to confront online anti-Black racism. Implications of study findings and future directions will be discussed.

Dr. Noelle Hurd's research agenda has primarily focused on the promotion of healthy development among marginalized adolescents and emerging adults. Specifically, her work has focused on identifying opportunities to build on pre-existing strengths in youths’ lives, such as supportive intergenerational relationships.
