The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is celebrating its 75th anniversary by featuring stories of how Kellogg Foundation grantees have touched the world. The work being done by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health students, as part of two Foundation programs – the Program in Health Policy Research and the Community Health Scholars Program – are also part of the anniversary celebration.

People who regularly drink alcohol are three times as likely to die from injury as are non-drinkers and former drinkers of alcohol, according to new research from the Center for Injury Research and Policy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

State policies, such as taxing the sale of cigarettes and alcohol, decrease teenage smoking and drinking, according to researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The researchers also found a correlation between an increased availability of family planning clinics and a decrease in teen sexual intercourse. The study results suggest that state and local legislatures can help teenagers make decisions to avoid unhealthy behaviors by implementing laws to make cigarettes and beer more difficult to obtain and increase the number of family planning clinics.

Jay’s Restaurant Group, which owns a well known local deli, take-out establishment, restaurant and catering company, has taken over the operation of the ninth-floor cafeteria at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. . Jay’s Wolfe Street Café opens its doors January 31, 2005.
