Pamela Y. Collins, MD, MPH
Dr. Pamela Collins is Bloomberg Centennial Professor and Chair of the Department of Mental Health. Formerly holding faculty and leadership positions at Columbia University, University of Washington, and NIMH, her vision has led to the launch of global health educational programs and of research initiatives to extend mental health services in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States. Her current research focuses on the integration of HIV and mental health services in Kenya, the use of technology to support evidence-based mental health care delivery in faith-based community settings in Ghana, and the mental health of urban adolescents around the globe.
Judy Bass, PhD, MPH, MIA
Dr. Judy Bass, Professor and Vice Chair for Education in Mental Health, specializes in assessing mental health across population and evaluating prevention and intervention strategies. She co-directs education and capacity-building initiatives for global mental health researchers and directs a NIMH T32 program for doctoral and post-doctoral fellows. Her work includes designing field-based research projects and collaborating with service providers to enhance mental health interventions.
Afshan Lakhani, MA
Afshan Lakhani is a dedicated mental health professional with over a decade of experience in psychotherapy, program development, and global mental health advocacy. Prior to joining the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Mental Health, Afshan held leadership roles at the Kennedy-Satcher Center for Mental Health Equity at Morehouse School of Medicine, YMCA, and Jubilee Monuments Corp. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Judith Bass, PhD '04, MPH, MIA, is an implementation science researcher, with a broad background in sociology, economic development studies, and psychiatric epidemiology.
Kathryn Falb, ScD, MHS ’07, designs and tests multidisciplinary strategies to prevent violence against women and children, primarily in humanitarian settings.
Shoshanna Fine, PhD '20, MPH, investigates mental health and well-being among marginalized and culturally diverse populations globally, with a focus on adolescents living in adversity.
Emily E. Haroz, PhD ’15, MHS ’11, MA, researches the implementation of mental health and suicide prevention programs, particularly in partnership with Indigenous communities.
Molly Lasater, PhD ’18, MPH ’14, investigates the health impacts of climate change, migration and displacement, and violence in low-resource and humanitarian settings.
Sabriya Linton, PhD ’13, MPH, uses a health equity lens and mixed methodologies to study how local and macro-level factors influence substance use, mental health, related sequelae.
Kristie Metz, PhD, MA, is a clinical psychologist who studies the effectiveness and dissemination of evidence-based mental health practices within low-resourced settings.
Sarah McIvor Murray, PhD ’15, MSPH '11, researches mental health, stigma, and violence to promote the health of marginalized populations in low-resource communities.
Pamela Surkan, PhD, ScD, is a social epidemiologist working on maternal & child mental health, child development, & the evaluation of programs to reduce health disparities.
