Experiences & Accomplishments
Dr. Philip Anglewicz is the Director of the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (WHGI), a role he assumed in 2024; and a Professor in the Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health (PFRH) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Anglewicz also serves as the Vice Chair for Research of PFRH.
For the WHGI, Dr. Anglewicz chairs the International Steering Committee and the Core Organizing Group of the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), the largest scientific gathering of sexual and reproductive health and rights professionals in the world. Dr. Anglewicz is also the Principal Investigator of the Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) Platform. For PMA, Dr. Anglewicz provides overall strategic direction to PMA as well as overseeing technical aspects of the project, including survey operations, data management and analysis. He works closely with PMA staff, faculty, and students to support our network of implementing partners and coordinates with funders and external partners to ensure progress against project goals and objectives.
Dr. Anglewicz's primary research interest is demographic change in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Specifically, he has studied topics like (1) contraceptive and family planning dynamics; (2) the impact of and response to infectious diseases in SSA, including HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and COVID-19; (3) the relationship between internal migration, and health and well-being; and (4) aging and Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) in SSA.
