Description
Introduces the application of common econometric methods to address questions of concern to policy makers, administrators, managers, and program participants regarding the evaluation of health programs. Combines a theoretical development of methods and a numerical application involving continuous dependent variables. Emphasizes the correct use of data in framing relevant questions and understanding the importance as well as the limitations of data analysis in order to equip students with the quantitative skills necessary to evaluate policy alternatives.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Apply methodological principles and statistical concepts as they relate to the field of program evaluation
  2. Conduct econometric analyses of observational data in order to reach conclusions relevant for decision-making processes
  3. Use computer packages to conduct empirical research in impact evaluation
