Who wields power in global health governance?
How are global health policies made?
Why do some global health issues receive attention, while others are neglected?
How can you better influence global health policy processes?
Examines key issues in global health policy and governance, including how the global health governance system has evolved, who the major actors are, what forms of power they hold, how global health policy is made, and why some global health issues receive priority while others remain neglected. Offers a comprehensive understanding of global health governance and policy so that students can more effectively analyze and influence global health policymaking.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Explain and assess how the major actors in global health governance exert influence, delineating the forms of power they wield
- Analyze global health policy-making processes within and across organizations
- Evaluate global health policymaking processes, including consequences of these policies (e.g. potential effects on population health), applying concepts from political science
- Create and evaluate strategies that organizations involved in global health can use to advance their policy objectives
