In his role, Schonewald will lead the School’s development team and its initiatives, building strong relationships with key constituencies while driving funding opportunities and directing alumni engagement. Schonewald will work closely with School leaders to grow the philanthropic support for the School.

“We look to Eric’s depth of experience to help shepherd the School’s development efforts as we move out of the Centennial year and into our next century,” says Heath Elliott, MEd, MBA, associate dean for external affairs at the Bloomberg School.

Schonewald comes to the Bloomberg School from Yale University, where he worked in a variety of roles over the past 21 years. Most recently, he served as the director of development for the Department of Internal Medicine, and prior to that, he was the director of development for Alumni Advancement and Medical Education. During his tenure at Yale, Eric worked with the Yale School of Public Health to jointly raise support for their priorities, in addition to roles in student affairs, the office of business affairs and managing major conferences and events.

“I’m passionate about the mission of public health and there is no better place to further that mission than at the leading school in the field,” Schonewald says.

Schonewald replaces Elliot, who was promoted to associate dean for external affairs in October of 2015. The Bloomberg School has been celebrating its Centennial in 2016.
