Public Health Career Fair Connects Students with Employers

Published

Every year, students interested in careers in public health gather at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to network with alumni and potential employers.

The Bloomberg School's 29th Annual Public Health Career Fair took place Friday, March 1, 2013. Attracting approximately 50 employers and more than 600 students, the event proved to be a valuable opportunity for job seekers and those interested in learning more about the field.

"I had a really great experience and I think it was really well-organized, which facilitated interactions between students and potential employers," said Samantha Berns, an MSPH in Health Policy candidate at the Bloomberg School.

"The Career Fair is done each year to allow a convenient location for representatives from around the country to meet with students, faculty and alumni to discuss employment opportunities, consultancies, internships and career information," said Paul Hutchinson, assistant director of Career Services at the Bloomberg School.

Public health includes disciplines ranging from healthcare management and public advocacy to biostatistics and immunology, just to name a few. Some Bloomberg School alumni have gone on to lead ministries of health, international agencies, research institutes and academic programs all over the world.

"Many prospective students ask about the School with their eyes on future employment," said Leslie Vink, director of Recruitment, Communications and Events at the Bloomberg School. "The Public Health Career Fair connects students with employers—the first step on that path."

Students and alumni looking for additional assistance with job search strategies and career plans can go to the Career Services website or visit the Career Services staff in person.
