Thousands upon thousands of students have signed up for Caffo's "Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp" course on Coursera.
Coursera is a new education venture that offers high-quality university courses online for free. In just four months, more than 222,000 students have enrolled in the Bloomberg School's Coursera offerings. Not surprising to those in the Biostatistics Department, one of the most popular of these courses is the biostatistics "boot camp" taught by Brian Caffo, PhD, MS, associate professor in the Department of Biostatistics.
Caffo's course is so popular, in fact, that Edudemic, an online magazine dedicated to new thinking in education, recently named it one of the 11 Most Popular Open Online Courses.
Edudemic called Caffo a luminary in his field and wrote that, "Caffo's engaging and popular course has helped him to become an academic celebrity online."
The Bloomberg School's next round of Coursera offerings—including Introduction to the U.S. Food System: Perspectives from Public Health, Health for All Through Primary Care and Data Analysis—will start January 23, 2013.
The next Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp taught by Caffo is set to launch in April.
