Joshua Else joined the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on July 18 as associate dean for External Affairs. He will oversee fund raising, alumni relations and communications activities for the Bloomberg School.
For the past six years, Else led development and external affairs as associate dean of the Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries and Museums.
“I am very pleased that Josh has joined us at the Bloomberg School of Public Health,” said Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, dean of the Bloomberg School. “He is a proven leader and he understands our School's mission, which is preventing illness and saving lives—millions at a time.”
In his role with the Sheridan Libraries, Else oversaw the successful completion of a $50 million goal in the University’s Knowledge for the World campaign. Most notably, during the closing year of the campaign, Else conceived and implemented an initiative across the institution to secure private funding for the $30 million Brody Learning Commons, which is scheduled to open on the Homewood campus in the fall of 2012.
Before coming to Johns Hopkins, Else spent three years leading the major gifts program at the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. His background also includes three years in the private sector as general manager of a publishing company in Honolulu and four years at his alma mater, Wake Forest University, as director of development for the Law School and director of annual support for the university.
