Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Signs Collaborative Agreement with Abu Dhabi Health Authority

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has signed a long-term agreement with the Health Authority—Abu Dhabi (HAAD) to develop research, educational and public health programs in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The 10-year agreement was signed on February 24 in Abu Dhabi by Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and HAAD chairman H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al-Mazrouei.

“We are deeply honored by this opportunity to enter into a collaboration with our colleagues at the Health Authority—Abu Dhabi. We share a mutual vision to improve health and save lives in Abu Dhabi, the other Emirates, the region, and globally through joint efforts in education, research and public health practice,” said Klag. “I look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration that will be a model of accomplishment and cooperation for the region and for the world.”

The first priority of the collaboration will be to design and implement a Master of Public Health—Doctor of Public Health (MPH-DrPH) Degree Program in Health Care Management and Leadership for students from Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The program will prepare individuals for leadership positions in health care organizations in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Training for the first group of 20 students will be provided both in Abu Dhabi and in the United States.

The program will also create a “learning network” of leaders who will help ensure the excellence of Abu Dhabi’s health care system. In the longer term, the Bloomberg School of Public Health will assist the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in establishing its own in-country degree program that will be a regional and global center for excellence in health management and leadership education.
