Kennedy Joins Statewide Task Force

Ryan David Kennedy, PhD, is representing IGTC and the Bloomberg School of Public Health on the newly-formed Comptroller's Task Force on Electronic Smoking Devices (e-facts). Created by Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot, the task force held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The Task Force will examine the implications of electronic smoking devices on public health and safety. In order to protect consumers, particularly young consumers, the Task Force may recommend new and stronger laws governing electronic smoking devices. The task force's final report will be submitted during the 2020 session of the Maryland General Assembly.

"I am honored to serve on this task force as we look at ways to combat a growing public health crisis," says Kennedy. "The Institute for Global Tobacco Control supports tobacco action in countries across the world, and we look forward to bringing that expertise to the Comptroller's Task Force."

Kennedy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
