Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit Participated in Virtual Pre-Conference Showcase for Safety 2022
Leadership from the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit participated in the Virtual Pre-Conference Global Injury Prevention Showcase on March 22-26, 2021 in advance of next year’s 14th Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Adelaide, Australia.
Developed as an online event to be held between the originally scheduled 2020 conference and the rescheduled 2022 event, the virtual showcase featured live and on-demand presentations through a combination of plenary and concurrent sessions, e-posters, and workshops, as well as a virtual exhibition hall.
JH-IIRU Associate Director Dr. Qingfeng Li led a workshop, “Big Data in Road Safety Monitoring and Evaluation.” Li guided participants to describe common big data sources for road safety, identify potential big data sources on a given road safety area, and apply basic big data analytical skills.
Director Dr. Abdul Bachani also joined leadership from the Global Road Safety Partnership and World Health Organization in a panel workshop on Tuesday, “Innovative Approaches to Capacity Development for Injury Prevention in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.”
The panel focused on innovative approaches for capacity development—at the individual and institutional levels, as well as in the field of injury prevention in LMICs.
Representatives from the Unit also staffed a booth in the exhibition hall to interact with virtual participants.
