Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit Attends Health Systems Global
On November 14-18, 2016, Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit (JH-IIRU) faculty attended the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Vancouver, Canada. The theme of the five-day symposium was "Resilient and responsive health systems for a changing world."
The Department of International Health was involved in over 30 sessions, including plenary, organized, oral, skills-building, satellite, poster and e-poster sessions. JH-IIRU director, Dr. Adnan Hyder, moderated a thematic working group session titled, “The ethics of health systems research priority-setting” and participated in a panel session titled, “Blurring the lines: ethical considerations when research is embedded in policy and practice.”
JH-IIRU faculty members were also involved in several sessions. Dr. Kate Allen, JH-IIRU Coordinator for Middle East, presented a poster titled, “Do researchers uphold principles of ethics in health systems research? - Empirical evidence from an online survey” and Dr. Olakunle Alonge, JH-IIRU Coordinator for Child Injuries, participated in a satellite session titled, “A massive open online course (MOOC) on implementation research.”
During the Health Systems Global annual general meeting, Dr. Adnan Hyder was formally introduced as a new member of the Health Systems Global Board.
The Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research will be held in Liverpool in 2018.
