Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit Director Named to Lancet Commission

Recently, Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit director, Adnan Hyder, was named to the Lancet Commission on Reframing NCDs and Injuries for the Poorest Billion.

Launched in September 2015, this Commission aims to prioritize the needs of those most in need by rethinking global policies, improving health disparities and broadening the noncommunicable disease agenda. A group of 22 Commissioners will work over 18 months with ten partner countries and a group of high-level advisers to work toward these goals.

The first full meeting of the Commission took place on January 20-22, 2016, in London where 21 of the 23 commissioners participated, including Dr. Hyder. Discussions centered around the objectives of the Commission, as well as objectives, work plans, and timelines for the four working groups. Those working groups include, Poverty and Disease Burden; Integrated Delivery, Multisectoral Action, and Priority Setting; Financing and Commodities; and History, Advocacy, and Governance.

The commissioners will meet again in the summer of 2016.
