Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit Welcomes Post-Doctoral Fellows from Pakistan and Uganda

The Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit welcomed post-doctoral fellows from the JHU-Makerere University Chronic Consequences of Trauma, Injuries and Disability in Uganda (JHU-MU Chronic TRIAD) and the JHU-Pakistan International Collaborative Trauma and Injury Research Training (JHU-Pak ICTIRT) programs.

While here, the trainees presented MPH theses and MPH theses proposals of their work.

On Thursday, July 23, both fellows from Pakistan, and two Ugandan fellows presented.

Maryam Lakhdir, from Pakistan, presented, “Prevalence of child abuse and its associated factors among children 11-17 years in community setting of Karachi, Pakistan: a cross sectional study” and Hasana Bilal, also from Pakistan, presented “Association of attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) with unintentional injuries among children 4-11 years: a matched case-control study in Karachi, Pakistan.”

Phoebe Alitubeera, from Uganda, Evaluating quality of care provided after sexual assault in public health facilities in Kampala District of Central Uganda” and Jennifer Namagembe, also part of the Chronic TRIAD program, presented “Assessment of prehospital care provided to injury patients in Mulago hospital.”

The remaining presentations by three Ugandan fellows, Arthur Kiconco, Claire Biribawa and Lilian Kauma will take place on Monday, July 27 from 12-1:20 pm in W-3011 in the School of Public Health Wolfe Street Building.
