Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit Participates in the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research

From September 30 to October 3, 2014, IIRU team members, including director Adnan Hyder, senior technical director David Bishai, faculty member Katharine Allen and research assistant Pooja Sripad participated in the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Hyder presented on ethics and health systems research during one of the symposium’s thematic working groups, while Dr. Bishai moderated the session, “Building the Building the capacity of researchers and decision-makers in applying systems: Thinking methods and approaches” and also participated in a discussion on district health systems in Africa. Ms. Sripad participated in a discussion on Patient orientation of health systems, and Dr. Allen presented her poster on migrant workers in the United Arab Emirates.

The symposium brought together researchers, policy-makers and implementers from around the world to develop the field of health systems research in order to share and apply their knowledge to strengthen health systems.
